CUCF Release Records Explained

Central Utah Correctional Facility is one of Utah's two state prisons. Its Gunnison location helps identify where a prisoner was housed and where a hearing may be associated. It does not create a separate county release list. UDC is the record-holding corrections authority, and the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole makes parole and sentence-termination decisions.

Physical release from prison and legal discharge are not the same. A parolee has left prison but remains under a state sentence and AP&P supervision. At expiration or a Board termination, the sentence ends. Because UDC Offender Search covers people currently under supervision, a parolee is often visible while a fully discharged person may be absent.

Check a CUCF Release

Use the UDC Offender Search with a UDC number whenever possible. Name searches require at least one character in the first and last name. Match the returned identity, then read legal status before relying on a placement site or date.

1. Confirm the UDC number, full name, and sentence case.
2. Read legal status. “Inmate” means custody continues; “Parolee” supports prison release to supervision.
3. Review “Parole/Expiration Date” without treating a future date as actual departure.
4. Search the Board portal for the decision and any later rescission, rehearing, or termination action.
5. Use VINE and the UDC movement history to confirm execution of the decision.

Board records include more than a simple yes or no. Original hearings, rehearings, paper reviews, parole dates, expiration, redetermination, violation proceedings, and rescission each mean something different. A rescission can take away a release date before the person leaves prison.

CUCF Gunnison Hearing Context

The Board's live-hearing guidance distinguishes Salt Lake and Gunnison. Gunnison hearings generally occur on Tuesdays, while the searchable combined hearings and decisions portal identifies the relevant result and calendar. Search by first and last name, offender number, or date range. Name search also checks known aliases, and pop-ups must be enabled to view results.

A hearing date is a procedural event, not a release date. A guideline date is a presumptive recommendation. A tentative hearing date estimates when a hearing may occur. A parole date is a Board-ordered target, still subject to conditions. Termination or expiration concerns the end of sentence and may occur well after release to parole.

CUCF Release Through USCF

UDC's release-day page states that Utah paroles and releases are processed on Tuesdays and most take place at Utah State Correctional Facility. Family or friends of a person housed at CUCF are directed to arrive at the USCF release building at 9 a.m. This is a state process, not a general Beaver County jail schedule.

A state prisoner may also have been held at Beaver County Correctional Facility under contract before CUCF. That creates several distinct movements: Beaver to UDC, placement at CUCF, transport for release processing, and parole or discharge. The USCF release page addresses the Salt Lake processing site. Each custody movement should be verified with the agency that recorded it.

Request CUCF Release Records

For a durable release or discharge record, follow the Department GRAMA link on UDC's Media and Public Information page. Provide the UDC number, full name, date range, CUCF placement reference, and the sentencing case if known. Ask for records that already exist.

Useful items include the legal-status history, custody release or movement, actual parole date, parole or expiration date, termination date, Board order, and case identifiers. UDC identifies core status and date fields as public information, but protected safety, security, victim, or other material may be withheld. Request a redacted copy of segregable public fields.

Utah GRAMA generally requires a response as soon as reasonably possible and no later than ten business days, unless an extension or other statutory path applies. That is a response rule, not a promise that every requested page will be produced by the tenth day. Ask for electronic delivery and a fee estimate.

CUCF Contact and Authority

The research identifies CUCF in Gunnison as the physical prison but does not supply a verified street address or direct local records desk. No address should be guessed. State record access runs through UDC, and release decisions run through the Board.

When asking about a Beaver-origin person, say whether the question concerns a Beaver jail transfer, CUCF placement, a Board decision, physical release, or later discharge. That wording routes the question to the right custodian and keeps a location change from being mistaken for freedom from custody.

Utah's sentence structure does not support a generic 85-percent formula. Earned time can affect an established date for eligible program work under Utah law, while case-specific restrictions and Board action still govern. Verify the Board record first and the actual movement second.

VINE can also report moves between Gunnison and Salt Lake sites, moves to county jails, and moves to a community correctional center. A community correctional center is a structured residential placement, not an unconditional discharge. Record the reporting agency and event type, then compare them with UDC legal status. If the alert is urgent, verify it with UDC because VINE is a notification tool rather than the permanent release certificate.

CUCF VINE Movement Alerts

Utah VINE can distinguish several CUCF-related events that a Board calendar cannot. State notifications include moves between the Gunnison and Salt Lake sites, moves to county jails, moves to community correctional centers, parole release dates, and actual releases reported by UDC. For telephone notice, select a four-digit PIN and enter it when the automated call arrives. Without confirmation, UDC says calls can repeat each hour for as long as 48 hours. Keep the contact method current and independently check an urgent alert. VINE is designed for notice, not as the permanent archive of a former prisoner's discharge.

A move alert should be read with legal status. “Inmate” means state confinement continues even if the site changes. “Parolee” means prison release into supervision. A community correctional center is a structured residential transition. None of those terms is the same as full sentence termination.

CUCF Date Rules and Limits

Utah's indeterminate sentence framework does not yield one arithmetic CUCF date. The Board works from the minimum and maximum terms, guideline information, and the individual case. A guideline date is a recommendation. A tentative hearing date forecasts a proceeding. Neither is an order to leave prison.

Earned time under Utah Code section 77-27-5.4 may adjust an established Board date for eligible completion of approved case-action-plan programs. The law includes timing and eligibility exclusions, and credit may be forfeited when rescission proceedings are needed. No verified blanket rule requires every Utah prisoner to serve 85 percent.

Residence approval and other prerequisites can also affect parole. A future date should therefore be checked first in the newest Board decision, then against the actual UDC movement. When requesting a CUCF record, ask separately for the Board order, release movement, parole date, and termination date so the response does not collapse four milestones into one.

The court file remains part of the check for a Beaver-origin sentence. It can show the judgment, concurrent or consecutive terms, and later court action. It cannot confirm the hour of departure from CUCF or USCF. Preserve the court case number with the UDC number so the state response can be matched to the correct conviction and person.
